Am I a Candidate For IV Sedation?

Not All Sedation Dentists
Offer IV Sedation

While many dentists offer various levels of sedation, such as oral sedation (pills) or nitrous oxide (laughing gas), IV sedation dentistry requires additional training, expertise, and specialized equipment. IV sedation dentistry is a more advanced form of sedation that involves administering sedative medications directly into the bloodstream. This allows for precise control over the level of sedation and ensures a deeper and more consistent state of relaxation throughout the dental procedure.

As an IV Sedation dentist, Dr. Engelsberg possesses a profound understanding of both medical and dental health issues, setting him apart from general dentists. He has undergone extensive and advanced training in sedation techniques, which enables him to safely treat compromised and severely affected patients with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, cardiac disease, and more. In addition, his training and experience extends to advanced medical emergencies, emergency resuscitation, diabetic management, and advanced cardiac life support.

“Working with Dr. Engelsberg has been an incredible journey. His expertise in IV sedation dentistry creates a comforting environment for patients, building trust and ensuring exceptional care.”

If you are anxious and want to have all your teeth removed and dentures placed, IV sedation dentistry can be a good solution. Intravenous (IV) sedation involves administering medication directly into a vein, which allows for quick and effective sedation during the dental procedure. IV sedation is a deeper form of sedation than oral sedation (pills) or nitrous oxide and it can help patients achieve a higher level of relaxation and comfort during the procedure.

Learn More About IV Sedation
IV SEDATION

IV sedation dentistry, also known as conscious sedation dentistry, is a type of dental sedation that involves the use of intravenous (IV) medication to help you relax and feel more comfortable during dental procedures. The medication is delivered through a small needle that is inserted into a vein in your arm or hand.

During IV sedation, the you remain conscious and can respond to verbal instructions, but you are in a deep state of relaxation and may not remember much about the procedure afterwards.

ORAL SEDATION

Medication is taken orally (by mouth) to help patients relax and feel more comfortable during dental procedures. The medication can be in the form of a pill, tablet, or liquid, and is usually taken about an hour before the dental appointment. Oral sedation is not recommended for severe anxiety or  long, complex procedures.

TOP 3 BENEFITS OF SEDATION

The benefits of sedation in dentistry include:

  1. Reduced anxiety and fear allowing you to get the needed dental care you require.

  2. Increased comfort making it easier for you to tolerate longer or more complex procedures.

  3. Improved cooperation particularly for patients who have a strong gag reflex or difficulty staying still.

SEDATION COST

The cost of sedation dentistry can vary depending on a number of factors, such as the type of sedation used, the length and complexity of the procedure. It’s important to note that insurance may not cover the cost of sedation dentistry in all cases.

IV SEDATION SAFETY

IV sedation is a deeper level of sedation than nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral sedation, and carries a higher risk of complications such as respiratory depression, decreased blood pressure, or allergic reactions. For this reason, it’s important to choose a dentist who has the necessary training and experience to administer IV sedation safely, and who is prepared to monitor your vital signs and respond to any potential complications during the procedure.
